Burglary-deterrent rolling shutters, also known as security/safety rolling shutters, are made from aluminum slats. Other materials that can be used alternatively are steel or stainless steel.
Unfortunately, some manufacturers use misleading marketing techniques that suggest that their shutters are burglar-deterring, when in reality, they can be breached with an ordinary household screwdriver.
A standard roll-formed aluminum roller shutter will not thwart the average burglar.
Some standard shutter slats, especially in the mini profile, can even be cut quickly and silently using a small pocketknife. Just as if they were PVC shutter slats.
Burglary-deterring shutters / security shutters have (5) five distinct features that, only in combination, can create a burglary-deterrent effect:
1. The slats must be made of durable material.
2. The slats creating the shutter window/door curtain must be secured against being forced upward.
3. The shutter/door curtain must be secured against being pulled out of the guide rails.
4. The guide rails must be secured against being pried open.
5. The roller shutter box must be difficult to access.
Owing to their more substantial material standards, burglar-deterrent shutters also provide protection from extreme weather events and exterior noise pollution. Our security shutters are RC2 (Oscar and Mini-Oscar) and RC3 (Bullit and Mini-Bullit) certified. As a cost-optimized and burglary-deterrent alternative, we offer our customers our extruded Magnum and Mini-Magnum profiles according to TR 111.
